My Idea Job

While to other people considering earning plenty of money means possessing a good job, I tend to not follow the trend. To tell the truth, the current job that I am doing as a sales person and marketing engineer isn't the perfect job for me. Oftentimes, it requires the ability to talk with customers in business jargon which seems a bit shallow to me. As I am a very candid person, having had to say things like that makes me uncomfortable. To look back on the ideal jobs that I wanted to do since I was little, I thought about being an elementary school teacher, working as a secretary, or even being able to work overseas. However, if it is possible for me to choose an ideal job, my answer can surprise some people. Just about nowadays I realized I really want to be a housewife, for the reason that I could put all my efforts and love towards my family. Compared to having had to face many challenges at work, I'd rather take care of the housework, which seems to have not much pressure to me. Also, to look after my family's daily life, contributing myself to them can make me fulfilled. Well, at present, I haven't been able to do my ideal job due to the fact that I haven't found my ideal husband yet. Nevertheless, I believe that one day I will have the chance to do this job and I will be the superb one.

My Idea Husband

Since I was a little girl up to the present, there have been several ideal husband images appearing to my mind. When I was 5 years old or so, I wanted to marry with a baker, for the reason that I could eat various kinds of bread and cakes anytime I felt like it for free. When I grew a bit older, I changed my mind from marrying a baker to a stationer owner because I thought I could use different kind of stationery every day to make vivid my school life. Reaching adolescence, I started dreaming of my ideal husband as a good looking, gentle guy for my eyes’ pleasure. However, with understanding more things in life, I started to think that marrying a better half is not just like playing a chess game. It is the lifelong mate. If you ask me what my ideal husband is now, I would tell you that I am looking for the person who is caring and understanding toward me when I feel blue. Furthermore, he should be someone who considers chasing after knowledge to be important in life as it is to me. The most important thing is that he must be a funny guy who can make me laugh at anytime. If I should meet this person, I would choose to marry him without a doubt.

The Most Important Thing(s) in My Life

While many people are putting their goal of life as chasing after money, there are several things I consider of primary importance in my life. If I have to put them into order, first of all would be “happiness.” Without happiness, I cannot imagine how miserable my life will be. What makes me happy? I am happy when I gain “Knowledge” by learning new things, which is the second important thing I consider in life. Following with the last but not least which is “health,” I am convinced that without a healthy body, it is never possible to achieve any goal in life, let alone happiness. So I am happy for I am a healthy person who has a positive outlook on life, and is able to learn things based on my own will. What else can I ask for? I think I am satisfied already.

The Key to Success: Hard Work or Luck?

From my point of view, I suppose that both luck and hard work are important to success. The reason is that I believe there is no such thing as a free lunch. One can hardly ever gain success just by relying on one’s good luck. If one does, it may just be a once in a blue moon chance. There is a personal experience I would like to mention, which is related to how I was able to pass the entrance examination for getting into NTUST. In fact, before I got the right to study in this school, I had tried two times to pass the exam; however, my hard work was in vain. Either the competitors were too great, or I wasn’t prepared well. At that time, I didn’t want to give up for one reason I consider NTUST to be the top ranked school for me, so I believed that the success must be reserved for the person who is most diligent. Even thought I had failed the exam twice, I still put hard work studying instead of waiting for my luck. Finally, I am glad I proved my theory with my effort.

My Rainy Day Person

I would like to describe a significant person to me who I consider
to be a rainy day friend. He is Mr.Antony Shu, who was my teacher
dating back several years ago. In the year 1999, I attended a PCB
Layout course, a kind of special course that teaches you how to
design electric circuit diagram at the government Thai-San Vocational
Training Centre. He was the one who led the course. The reason that
I see his as my rainy day friend is because he treats me very nicely
as if I was his own daughter. Whenever I face difficulties in life,
he is always there for me, consoling me with positive advice and
getting me off the hook. It really makes me appreciate what he has
done for me from the bottom of my heart. Although nowadays
I do not meet him often, we still keep a good relationship with

each other. He is my rainy day friend and will always be.

Best Friend's Quality

Speaking of “Best friend’s quality” I would like to bring about this topic from diplomatic perspective.

On the recent news, Senegal, a friend of Taiwan has just cut the diplomatic tie with Taiwan. Dates back a decade ago, they cut the diplomatic relations with Mainland China for economic reasons, yet now, they wants to switch loyalty to Mainland China for the same logic. And they even add to say “Between countries there are no friends, only shared benefits”.
Among 25 friends of Taiwan we have left, I wonder what on earth the motive we want to keep those countries for?? Most of them are not well-developed or have a firm position in national society. Years after years, we play the role of the fat cat, keep squandering huge money for corrupt allies. Do we just want to show the world that without China’s support, we still have friends??

I would say, those people who think that way are just fooling themselves around. Think about it, what is the in-depth significance of friendship? The answer can be narrowly to a person, widely to a country.

There is an English proverb says “A friend in need is a friend indeed”, Also, as the Chinese ancient teacher Confucius said that a true friend should be “Straightforward, upright and knowledgeable”.
In my view, I see these 3 words are initially important to a quality friend. In the meantime, I would also like to add one more description, which is “interactive assistance”, true friends are not only share your ups and downs in life, but also can bring out the best in your deep soul. He comforts you, consoles with you. That is kind of friends that I would get along with for entire life.

This is the last presentation that I give for this semester; I’d like to thank all of you for being such great audience of me. Without you, I would never be able to stand in front of the stage, thank you so much.

Use of Animal

Good evening everyone, I am Lilian

Tonight, I would like to share the topic of “Use of animal” with you.
Talking about this issue brings me back a very uncomfortable experience that once I have seen a documentary which was filmed secretly of illegal slaughtermen who were executing the process of tearing off the leather of raccoon, leopard and other animals that have innately unique fur.

In that video clip, I saw lots of wild animals were caged and as if they were waiting to be sentenced to death. By looking at their helpless eyesight, I felt a great pain and grief come up from the bottom of my heart. I saw a slaughter man firstly drag a raccoon from the cage, no matter how fiercely the raccoon fights against to be pulled out, the brutal guy just shows no sympathy to this little innocent animal; meanwhile, he is casually chatting with his partner with a sinister smile. Following, he uses a bat to hit the raccoon’s head and body till it gets faint. At that point, I felt stomach turning and sickening already, what is more, he uses a knife to cut off the raccoon’s limb, the curliest thing is the raccoon was still alive.

Next, the slaughter man cast that raccoon aside on a pile of his same kind. Continuously, the other man comes, he starts to carve the raccoon to tear apart its flesh and fur. I saw the raccoon was struggling against his death with his feebly gasp, and as the video came closer to film the raccoon’s face, no kidding, I saw tears in his eyes. Because I was too shock to see that, I could barely hold myself together to finish that film. The length of the film was 30 mins in total, but I could hardly carry on watching it after the very first 7 mins. That was the worst thing I have ever seen in my life. I felt rather sick for the whole day after that. As long as I think of that there are such kind of indifference people who also live on the same planet as me. I just hate them.

Does scarce stands for unique?? Should fashion have to be performed in a cruel way?? I wonder how those people who indulging to wear fur coats can feel at ease and justified if they know the coats are obtained that way? Also, I doubt how those people who play the role of executioner can sleep peacefully? They paid no attention to those animal’s growl and struggle but kill them in a cruel way.
What can we do to change the fate of those poor animals that are scarified owing to people’s vainglory? I suppose that everyone should boycotts to wear or to buy fur coats. At the same time, I consider it is a critical issue that we ought to ponder over.

Best In Me

It is one of my favorite songs which I like the most, and I want to share it
with you, hope you will enjoy listening to it. ^_^

From the moment I met you I just knew you'd be mine
You touched my hand
And I knew that this was gonna be our time
I don't ever wanna lose this feeling
I don't wanna spend a moment apart

Chorus:
'Cos you bring out the best in me, like no-one else can do
That's why I'm by your side, and that's why I love you

Every day that I'm here with you
I know that it feels right
And I've just got to be near you every day and every night
And you know that we belong together
It just had to be you and me

Chorus...

And you know that we belong together, It just had to be you and me

'Cos you bring out the best in me, like no-one else can do
That's why I'm by your side
'Cos you bring out the best in me, like no-one else can do
That's why I'm by your side, and that's why I love you
'Cos you bring out the best in me, like no-one else can do
That's why I'm by your side, and that's why I love you

Signpost for presentation

When we are giving a presentation, there are certain key words we use to
"signpost" different stages in our presentation.

When you want to make your next point, you "move on".
Moving on to the next point.
I'd like to move on to the next point if there are no further questions.

When you want to change to a completely different topic, you "turn to".
I'd like to turn to something completely different.
Let's turn now to our plans for next year.

When you want to give more details about a topic you "expand" or "elaborate".
I'd like to expand more on this problem we have had in Chicago.
Would you like me to expand a little more on that or have you understood
enough? I don't want to elaborate any more on that as I'm short of time.

When you want to talk about something which is off the topic of your
presentation, you "digress".
I'd like to digress here for a moment and just say a word of thanks to Bob
for organizing this meeting.
Digressing for a moment, I'd like to say a few words about our problems in Chicago.

When you want to refer back to an earlier point, you "go back".
Going back to something I said earlier, the situation in Chicago is serious.
I'd like to go back to something Jane said in her presentation.

To just give the outline of a point, you "summarize".
If I could just summarize a few points from John's report.
I don’t have a lot of time left so I’m going to summarize the next few points.

To repeat the main points of what you have said, you "recap".
I'd like to quickly recap the main points of my presentation.
Recapping quickly on what was said before lunch, ……

For your final remarks, you "conclude".
I'd like to conclude by leaving you with this thought ……
If I may conclude by quoting Karl Marx …….

some idioms about "UP"

1. If someone 'beats you up', they hit and kick you and hurt you a lot.
2. If you 'bottle up' a feeling or emotion, you suppress them and don't express them.
3. If you 'call someone up', you phone them.
4. If something 'crops up', it happens unexpectedly.
5. If you 'freshen up', you wash and make yourself more presentable.
6. If your eyes 'light up', they become excited.
7. If you 'own up', you confess to something.
8. If you 'polish something up', you improve it.
9. If you 'speed up', you go faster.
10.If you 'tighten up' something, you make it more secure.

New Friends and Old Friends

by Joseph Parry

Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.
New-made friendships, like new wine,
Age will mellow and refine.
Friendships that have stood the test -
Time and change - are surely best;
Brow may wrinkle, hair grow gray,
Friendship never knows decay.
For 'mid old friends, tried and true,
Once more we our youth renew.
But old friends, alas! may die,
New friends must their place supply.
Cherish friendship in your breast-
New is good, but old is best;
Make new friends, but keep the old;
Those are silver, these are gold.

結交新的朋友,但不要忘了老朋友;

有一天我們相聚時將再度感到年輕;

結交新的朋友,但不要忘了老朋友;

This is the poem that I learned recently, which I cherish
a lot, the literary grace is so great, I can't help but reciting
it over and over again. It's so beautiful...

The Reflections of Tennis Class

I had never tried playing tennis before I got in NTUST. And actually I am also not a person who is keen on athletics. However, the reason why I chose to attend this course was because I wanted to try something new which I was not able to try before; to tell the truth, I was not so into the situation of how to hold the racket and bat the tennis ball at the beginning, when I was told that I would be requested to hit the tennis against the wall for at least 15 times continuously for my semester exam, I really wondered if I could do that.

The first impression on teacher 姜 was like he is a very serious and strict teacher, to tell the truth, there was a quick flash once into my mind thinking of switching to the other sport class in the first place, only because I was afraid that I would get low grades on my performance, also for such an unfamiliar sport to me, I did not feel confident of what I was going to learn. However, it has been 10 weeks passed for having the tennis class; to be frank, I am getting used to the sense of getting the tennis in control, at least my highest records of hitting the tennis against the wall is 25 times without dropping down, which is a very good effect after I have paid efforts on practicing my skills. But I must say that I have only improved a little bit, and there are still plenty of rooms for me to move on.

I have had the tennis course for several weeks so far, especially there is one thing that impressed me the most , also, I would like to express my gratitude towards teacher 姜. One time while I was playing tennis, I accidentally sprained my ankle, due to I have the tendency of habitually ankle-sprained, that time I was also seriously injured. Thanks to teacher 姜 approached to me promptly and gave me the first-aid treatment, that soothed my pain a lot. Although my ankle has not fully recovered yet, but I still do not want to miss the class, after all, I want to learn better and better through each time’s practicing.

All in all, tennis to me is a new sport that I am trying, the more I learn, and am able to control it, the more self-confident I gain. I can say that I like playing tennis, and I am looking forward to seeing my improvements through the whole year school term.

Translations---Narcissus

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful lad whose name was Narcissus.
His beauty was so great that all the girls who saw him longed to be his,
but he would have none of them. He would pass the loveliest carelessly
by , no matter how much she tried to make him look at her.
Even the fairest of the nymphs, Echo, did not move him.

She had been condemned by Hera never to use her tongue again except
to repeat what was said to her, as a punishment for helping Zeus get
away from Hera's investigation into his affairs. In love with Narcissus,
the poor Echo could only follow him without being able to speak to him.
One day, however, it seemed that her chance had come. he was calling to
his companions.

“Is anyone here?”
“Here-Here-” She called back in rapture, hiding by the trees.
“Come!” Shouted the lad.
“Come!” She answered joyfully, and stepped forth from the woods
with her arms outstretched.

But he turned away in angry disgust.
“Not so” he said, “I will die before I give you power over me.”
“I give you power over me-” was all she could say in response.
But he was gone. She stayed in a lonely cave, so wasting away with
longing that only her voice now is left to her.

So Narcissus went on his cruel way, a scorner of love. But one say,
as Narcissus bent over a clear pool for a drink and saw his own reflection
there, on the moment he fell in love with it.

He pined away, leaning perpetually over the pool, fixed in one long gaze.
There on the spot was blooming a new and lovely flower,
and people called it by his name, Narcissus.

Adam = Jack Horgan
Eve = Noel
Serpent = Mike

Dialogue

Eve:
Hey, My darling, you know, just now when I went pick up our lunch from the passion fruit tree, I met the evilly serpent, he told me that if I ate the fruit of the tree of good and evil, I can become more beautiful than now. And if you ate it with me, we would be surprised to know some secrets which father God prevented us to know about. What do you think??

Adam:
But my sweetheart, don’t you remember what father God has warned us?? He said we can eat all the things that grow in Eden Garden but the fruit from the tree of good and evil. I would say that we’d better not try to disobey him.

Eve:
No, Adam, you don’t understand what I was saying. I want to be the most beautiful woman because of you, I want to please you, you are my beloved, and I hope I can stay my beauty forever. On the other hand, if we don’t tell him, father God will never discover about this.

Adam:
Hmm~ I still don’t think that is a right thing to do…

Serpent:
Hey, my dear friends Don’t be so cautious. Don’t you know the fruit that grows on the tree of good and evil is the best and juicy among the whole Eden garden? As far as I know, your God father will just want to occupy them for himself, and don’t want to share with you two. Don’t you curious about what taste they are??

Eve:
Yes, I want to try it, I don’t think father God will know about it, if three of us don’t say a word, then no one will find out the fruit is gone. So, Adam, don’t just be hesitated. I will pick up one for you, and we can share.

Serpent:
Yes!! Yes!! Good girl, I know you are clever when I see you at first sight!!! (hehehe~) You are making a right decision.

Eve went picking up the fruit by stepping on Adam’s shoulder, and right away she gets one apple which looks juicy and sweet.

Eve:
Oh, Dear my darling, I want to present my love to you by letting you take the first bite, this apple must be tasty, please accept my faithful and only love to you.

Adam takes a bite, looks uncertain but as he gets the first bite of the apple, he looks cheerful, and he hands the Apple to Eve, Eve bites it too. In the meantime, they hear the voice of God.

God:
My beloved children, where have you been?? I have been looking for you, why don’t you just come in front of me.
All in a sudden, when Adam and Eve are about to come out to greet their father God, they are totally shocked to realize that they are both naked. So they hide behind a tree with fig leaves covering in front of their bodies.

God:
Adam, Eve. I don’t want to sound like angry, but would you just come right out??

Eve:
No, Dear father, we can’t, because now we are not wearing any clothes.
God:
What did you two have done?? Did you eat the fruit from that tree?? HOW DARE YOU!!??

Adam:
Eve, I told you not to do so, what about now!? Father God is furious.

They both come out from the back of the grove timidly.

God:
Didn’t I just tell you that you were allowed to eat the fruit in the whole yield but the tree of good and evil?? Why didn’t you just listen to me carefully?

Eve:
My dear father God, it’s all the sinister serpent’s fault, he seduced me to take a bite of the fruit on that tree, and I was wondering why wasn’t that possible??

God:
Adam!!! and you? What do you have to say?? I suppose that you would have been more sensible about what I have warned you, but turns out you couldn’t even restrain Eve well. I am totally disappointed at you too.

Adam:
I .. I .. I don’t know, the serpent, and Eve, they all told me the fruit is so juicy, and all of a sudden, I just feel like taking a bite of it. I am so sorry, Father God!!

God:
No, it’s now all too late; you have to take the punishment for what you have done wrong.
Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to, so from now on, you will have to work hard to gain your food for life, and Eve, I will multiple your pain in childbearing, and desire for your husband, and he shall rule over you. For the serpent, because you have lured Adam and Eve to do things wrong, you are cursed to walk on your belly and be enmity between you and the woman and her children and yours.

Ever since then, human beings and the snakes are living the way that God has cursed on.

Samarra

City in central Iraq with about 200,000 inhabitants (2002 estimate). Samarra lies on the east bank of the Tigris River.
Samarra is a trade centre of its region. There is some industry and small crafts, as well as local administration.
While Samarra today is a modest regional centre, it was the capital of the Muslim world for 56 years in the 9th century, when the Abbasid caliphate was moved here from Baghdad. At the most, the royal palaces and gardens stretched out for a distance of 30 km along the river.

The most prominent remains of this past is the famous Great Friday Mosque from 852 with the unique spiral minaret. This mosque itself is predominantly in ruins, with only the outer walls standing. The plan of the mosque is 240 x 160 metres, i.e. more than 38,000 m2. The walls are about 10 metres high, 2.65 metres thick and supported by 44 towers. An ambitious restoration process began in the late 1990's, aiming at rebuilding the columns and eventually the roof.

The spiral minaret, 'Malwiya' in Arabic, is a separate structure from the main congreation hall, 27 metres north of the main hall. It is 52 metres high, and 33 metres in diameter. It is easily entered by a staircase spiralling up on the outside of the round walls. At the summit, the staircase penetrates the structure for the first time, giving access to a flat platform on the top, about 3.5 metres wide. It is believed by many that the minaret was built about 15 years before the main structure.

About 22 km south of Samarra lies a replica of the Great Friday Mosque, the Abu Duluf Mosque. The main hall is almost as big, 215 x 138 metres, but the minaret, once again spiral is only 19 metres high. Samarra holds the remains of the Caliph's residence. It used to be 700 m"

Advertising report

Reason for choosing the advertisement?
The true reason that I picked this advertisement was because I didn't have enough
time to select a profound one, therefore, I went through my bookshelf finding out
there was an Australian official issued travel guild book called "After dark",
it tells you where to go and look for fun after dims. Mostly, the pictures that
gathered in the book are sort of like this one. When I saw this pic, it really caught
my eyes for the first sight and as for an assignment; I supposed it should be an
interesting one to show you guys.

The effectiveness of the advertisement?
The idea of this ad is to sell a door to door service, you only give them a ring to
order a guy for accompany, they will deliver him right at your door, it does look
like a very private business to be conducted, it gives the chance for those who
do not want to show their true
identity, but can still make a deal.

Areas of improvement for this advertisement?
As for a pornography ad, the concept they are trying to sell is pretty clear,
however, in the ad, it only says it takes 5 mins to downtown CBD, but didn't
give the certain address of itself, it left me to think, whether they don't want to
give out their company info, or it is just a fraud.

My opinion of the advertisement?
In my opinion, this ad is totally not my cup of tea, but as sexual industry has long been
carrying out all around the world, I supposed that in Sydney, it is more publicity
acceptable to promote this biz than in Taiwan.

What is "Doukona"?

While I was reading teacher Sarah's outside reading "Jamaica Kingcaid---Girl".

I looked up for the word "Doukona", it seems like not a pure English,I didn't know what it means. As I followed the trail to find out there is an explaination says :

"Doukona" is a variant of "dokunu" in Jamaica, a kind of pudding made from starchy food which is sweetened, spiced, and traditionally wrapped in plantain...or banana leaf. A favorite black dish, it can be boiled, baked,or roasted. There is a great deal of variance in the way African terms are rendered into all the languages and pidgins spoken in the Caribbean.
